  • Julian Alerts is a privately funded, community run service.

Julian Alerts is a privately funded community run service. We are not sponsored by any government agency. Our goal is simple to inform the community on important information that will effect everyone. As seen in Paradise and Santa Rosa Fire, authorities where unable to effectively notify the public in emergency situations. The future of Fire Protection in Julian and Cuyamaca greatly effects our mission here at Julian Alerts and the safety of our community. If you wish to be taken off this service at any time, contact us through the Contact Us page and we will remove you.

Julian Alerts was designed for multiple ways of notifying and informing the residents of the Julian and surrounding area with current information about local emergencies. Julian Alerts is strictly neighbor helping neighbor. Our only goal is to inform the community about emergencies as fast as we can.

Julian Alerts was started by Julian locals and will be ran by Julian locals.

  • SANTA ANA WILDFIRE THREAT INDEX

Santa Ana Event pageThis is the website that Steve Vandenberg spoke about last night at his talk at the library . For those who were not there, it is a site developed to keep the public appraised as to the threat from Santa Ana events. It is a very advanced way of predicting if an event has the potential to blow up into large wildfire.

  • What is Julian Alerts?

Julian Alerts has designed multiple ways of notifying and informing the residents of the Julian area with current information about local emergencies. Julian Alerts is strictly neighbor helping neighbor. Our only goal is to inform the community about emergencies as fast as we can.

Please keep in mind,  “By signing up of any of our services I (the reader) acknowledge that I (the reader) understand that the information I (the reader) receive is not from any official source and carries no authority implied or otherwise.”

    How does it work?

You can sign up for as many or as few of these options as you would like.

    1)      We have a Julian Alerts Facebook page. Posts on this group will be limited to emergency related information only. The reason for emergency information only is to keep the time the community has to look for current information to a minimum.  Anyone can post on this page but it will only be seen if you go to our page.

    2)      We have a Julian Alerts Facebook group. Anyone in the Julian area is welcome to join the group. Posting on this group will be limited to emergency related information only. The reason for emergency information only is to keep the time the community has to look for current information to a minimum. Anyone can post on this page and anyone in the group can see it.

    3)      We have a Julian Alerts website. Our website has an emergency information page, a contact page, a general information page, links with current information on emergencies, and links on how to get involved. On our website, you can sign up for our services listed below. ALL information you share with us is and will remain confidential and solely used to inform you faster.

    4)      We have a phone notification system.  This message will be similar to reverse 911 phone messages. If you choose to sign up, you will only receive a phone message when there is an emergency in your area or surrounding area. We will not use it to inform you of anything besides emergencies. We will do a couple of preplanned test runs to make sure it works. You will be notified before hand and in the recording. The message will state that it is a test call. Please inform us if you have an issue so we can address it. You will be able to opt out of this at anytime at the end on the recordings.

    5)      You can sign up for our text messages on our website. Once again, we will not use it to inform you of anything besides emergencies. Throughout the year, we will do a couple of test runs to make sure it works. You will be notified before hand and the text will state that it is a practice test text message.

    6)      You can sign up for our email. Once again we will not use any of your information to inform you of anything besides emergencies. Throughout the year will do a couple of test runs to make sure it works. You will be notified before hand and the email will state that it is a test email.

    7)      Most importantly, we need your feedback and input. If you have having trouble with any of our services, please let us know.  If there is something you would like to learn, please let us know as well.

  • The beginning of something big, if we get your support.

This can be the beginning of something to really help the community through getting information and alerts out to the community through phone, texts, photos, social media, ham radio and which ever other ways will get this important info out into the community. We are attempting to setup an alert system to get out info about situations that our community should be aware about in a timely manner.

We saw in the recent “Banner Fire” that many residents were not aware of the danger that was right over the hill. Reverse 911 calls did not get to many people who could have been impacted by this. We all got very lucky in that the wind was not blowing also we had lots of resources in the county (Air Tankers, Helicopters, Engines and other assets) that could have been out fighting other fires in other jurisdictions and left us covered but struggling.

This website is an attempt to get out notifications about situations through our “grapevine” so our community can be aware of situations that may impact them in a more timely manner so members can at least be aware of a danger that may be around the corner they are not aware of.
